Letter to the Members

Michael Sorensen
President
New Mexico Chapter
International Association of Arson Investigators

To the Members of the Chapter:

I would like to introduce myself to you. I'm currently employed by the Roswell Fire Department since 1997, started out as a firefighter, then on to driver for the last 6 years, up until I took the vacant position in the inspection/investigation bureau about 3 weeks ago. I'm currently serving under Buck in the division. I have been with Berrendo Volunteer Fire Department since 1987, where I currently hold the Deputy Chief position.

I have been a member of this chapter since 1992.

I have seen the chapter grow in recent years. I would like to continue with its growth by keeping the quarterly meeting and training together. I think this gives everyone an opportunity to get some training in different areas. I would like to let everyone know about the Louis Jones Memorial Scholarship. A new award was created at the October general meeting, Ray Kuhn Memorial, for the investigator of the year. We will have the applications posted on the web site, or you can contact a Board member for information. We have had two members test and get their CFI through the international; they are Warren "Buck" Aldrich, CFI and Brian Beasley, CFI. Congratulations to them. I would like to help anyone else going for their CFI, if there are any classes you need let me know and let's see if we can get them here. If anyone knows of any class they would like to see at a quarterly meeting or at the annual meeting let me know. We are looking into some basic and advanced classes put on by the ATF for the annual meeting.

If anyone is interested in helping out with the annual conference being held in Rio Rancho, get in touch with Jeff Hill.

Hope to have a great year working with all of you. If you have any questions please contact me.

Sincerely,

Michael Sorensen
